Can a person be so broken that he turns into a villain? Yes, it can happen. Life has that power. Too much pain, too many failures, too many losses - it all breaks a person from inside. That is why in movies or animes, we sometimes feel connected to villains more than heroes.
Most of the time, the story of a villain begins with pain. His past is not easy, it is full of wounds and bitterness. And when we see that, we feel it. Because somewhere we also have our own painful past. Maybe not the same, but still something that hurts us deeply. That is why the antagonist feels real. He carries pain the way we all do.
But then a question comes. If both hero and villain suffer, why does one remain good and the other turns into darkness? The truth is, the difference is not in their fate, the difference is in their endurance.
A hero’s life is not smooth either. He also fails, he also loses people, he also cries in silence. But still, he keeps walking on the same path. He falls but stands again. He does not allow his pain to change his values. That is why he remains a hero.
The villain, on the other hand, breaks at one point. He cannot carry it anymore. He thinks, “If I am suffering, then everyone else should too.” That one thought pushes him to the other side. And that is when he becomes the antagonist of the story.
We relate to villains because they remind us of our own weakness. Deep inside, we all know how close we are to breaking. Life sometimes brings us to that edge where even one wrong step could change us forever. That fear, that closeness, makes us feel connected with the villain more than the hero.
Heroes are like an ideal version of us. They inspire us, but sometimes they feel far. Villains feel closer, because they are like a reflection of our hidden self. The side that comes out when life gets too heavy.
In the end, both hero and villain walk through the same storms. Both taste pain, loss, betrayal. But the one who chooses to endure, becomes a hero. The one who chooses to give up and take revenge, becomes a villain.
Life is about choices. Pain will always be there. But if we decide to hold on, to move forward, to not let anger control us, we remain on the path of light. If we let the bitterness win, then we fall into darkness. Both paths are possible. It is only our choice that decides who we become.
