Tilak of sandalwood or vermilion etc. on the forehead between the two eyebrows nourishes the command chakra and the pineal and pituitary glands near it.

It enhances intellect and sattva and also develops thinking power. Therefore, applying tilak is very beneficial from both spiritual and scientific point of view. That’s why in Hindu religion, while doing any auspicious work, chandan is applied on the forehead.

Most of the women’s mind remains in Swadhishthana and Manipur center only. There is an excess of fear, emotion and imagination in these centres. They should not get carried away by emotions and imagination, their Shivnetra, the center of thinking power should develop, for this purpose the sages have made a law for women to apply Tilak.

The benefits that are obtained from sandalwood and vermilion chandan are not available from today’s chemical-rich bindis.

Sticking a plastic dot on the forehead is harmful, discard it from a distance.

The soil of Tulsi or Peepal root or the soil of cow’s hoof is virtuous, fruitful and sattvic. Its tilak or turmeric or sandalwood or a mixture of turmeric and sandalwood is beneficial.

Brothers should also apply Tilak. This leads to the development of the command cycle (which scientists call the pineal gland) and increases decision-making power.

The tradition of applying a **Tilak** is deeply rooted in the spiritual and cultural practices of Hinduism, symbolically representing the seat of wisdom and consciousness situated at the **Aagnyachakra** or the third eye. This custom underscores the intertwining of spiritual insight and intellectual enlightenment. Here is a brief exposition that encapsulates the essence of this practice:

## The Quadrilateral of Tilak Significance

### 1. Spiritual Intersection
The Aagnyachakra, positioned between the eyebrows, is considered a focal point for spiritual awakening. Applying Tilak at this juncture is believed to promote concentration and inner peace.

### 2. Scientific Perspective
Sandalwood and vermilion have properties that may positively affect the nearby pineal and pituitary glands, potentially aiding in brain function and intellectual capacity enhancement.

### 3. Cultural Ritual
In Hindu auspicious ceremonies, the Tilak is gracefully adorned on the forehead. This act is not just a matter of tradition but also accents the significance of the sacred in everyday life.

### 4. Counterpoint to the Modern Bindis
The shift from organic substances like sandalwood, turmeric, and the soils of sacred plants to chemical adhesives and plastic dots is highlighted. Advocating natural materials as tilak is emphasized, given their purported benefits over modern synthetic alternatives.

By understanding its multifaceted role, we appreciate the Tilak not only as a physical ornament but also as a symbol that touches upon the spiritual, intellectual, cultural, and ecological aspects of our life.
